Likely Democratic primary voters in the 9th Congressional District — particularly older voters and suburban voters, with a focus beginning in the outer suburbs and moving toward the city – should spend the next several weeks seeing in broadcast, cable, and digital ads, and reading in mail the following message:

Laura Fine, who was endorsed by the Chicago Tribune and the Daily Herald, is the fighter and the winner Democrats need right now.

• When Laura’s husband was nearly killed in a devastating car accident, she took on the insurance companies who tried to cancel her coverage to avoid paying – and won;

• She took her fight to Springfield, where she beat the insurance companies again – this time on behalf of all Illinois families;

• She went on to become one of Springfield’s most effective legislators, passing over 200 laws;

• She’s been a consistent champion to improve health care in the state

  • She is the only candidate in this race who voted to make abortion a fundamental health care right in Illinois;

  • She expanded mental health care programs;

  • And she supports Medicare for All, breaking the grip the insurance companies have over the health care system. She’s taken them on before and will do it again

• She's been endorsed by both the Chicago Tribune and Daily Herald, who called Laura Fine "the remarkably effective legislator the country needs."

• And she’s meeting the moment now. Doing more than just talking a big game in the fight against ICE and their assault on our communities

  • Sponsored bill to unmask agents who think they’re above the law

  • Sponsored a bill to prevent ICE agents from working in law enforcement in Illinois ever again

  • MAGA is attacking her for trying to hold ICE accountable.

• Voters who have strong opinions on foreign affairs looking for a progressive vision need to know that they cannot trust Daniel Biss. There are multiple candidates in the race who have been consistent and clear on these issues, like Mike Simmons and Laura Fine.

Separately and simultaneously, these voters must also see on broadcast, digital, and streaming and read in mail that Daniel Biss is not someone that Democrats can count on – he’ll always juggle his positions to put his own political ambition ahead of what’s best for you.

It’s not that Daniel is too conservative or too liberal; it’s that he’ll be whatever he needs to be to win his next election. And there’s always a next election. He’s run for state legislature, Governor, Comptroller, Mayor, and now Congress … for Daniel, it’s all about Daniel.

Proof Points:

• Biss cozied up to Mike Madigan to help build his political profile and even ran his Super PAC, “working hand-in-glove” with the disgraced former Speaker … then tried to run for Governor as an anti-Madigan reformer just months later, when he thought it would help his campaign;

• Biss talks about ending corruption in Washington, but as Mayor of Evanston, he took tens of thousands in donations from Northwestern boosters and connected backers of the new stadium after casting the controversial tie-breaking vote to build a new football stadium

• Biss even promised Evanston voters he would serve a full term as their Mayor last year to win re-election, then announced his campaign for Congress just days after getting sworn in.

• In this race, Biss tried to get support from a pro-Israel group, telling them what they wanted to hear, then immediately changed his position on key issues after the group refused to support his campaign;

• Biss now claims he won’t ever cut Medicaid in Washington, but he already did it once in Springfield, eliminating coverage for 25,000 working Illinois parents and portraying his position as courageous.
